Electronics Technology

The Diablo Valley College electronics program prepares students for employment in the field of electronics technology. Technicians in this field install, maintain and service a wide range of electronic equipment.

As an electronics student, you will gain an in-depth understanding of the many different fields of employment available under this broad area.

Electronics technicians are used in the following areas:

  • Industrial electronics
  • Medical electronics
  • Automotive electronics
  • Consumer electronics
  • Communications electronics
  • Instrumentation electronics
  • Military electronics
  • Radio and television broadcast electronics
  • Computer electronics.


Electronics students can choose to specialize in either programmable logic controllers, which are highly specialized industry computers that control industrial processes, or computer service and repair.

Students will learn about:

  • AC and DC circuitry,
  • basic electronic test equipment and devices,
  • digital and microprocessor circuitry,
  • computer and digital communication equipment,
  • electronics fabrication,
  • introduction to computer hardware.
