Expanding your horizons
Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) is a conference specially designed for middle school girls in the Central Contra Costa County area.
Conference Goals
- To increase the interest of young women in mathematics, science, and technology through positive, hands-on experiences.
- To foster awareness of career opportunities in math-, science-, and technology-related careers.
- To provide young women with opportunities to meet and interact with positive role models who are active in math-, science-, and technology-related careers.
Seventy-Minute Workshops
Workshops are the heart of EYH. Two 70-minute workshops are held. Girls, in groups of 10-15, participate in hands-on science-, math-, or technology-related activities and interact with professionals and science enthusiasts.
Career Treasure Hunt
Girls circulate through an exhibition area, where they have an opportunity to talk one-on-one with scientists and representatives of local businesses and companies, as well as college representatives, about career and education choices.
